Hotel Modez

Coming soon: the grand opening of Hotel Modez in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Arnhem is Holland’s Milan. In other words: the fashion city of this tiny little country by the sea. Hotel Modez will be the first fashion hotel to open in Arnhem. With each room designed and decorated by another Dutch fashion designer, this hotel will be one unique piece of work. As from September 14th they will welcome guests, but you can already book your room online. What’s really cool is the room decorated by fashion house Spijkers&Spijkers. A dress from their summer collection is displayed on the wall and there will be a mobile system showing the patterns. This way, guests of the room can see how a dress like that is actually made. How cool. Famous fashion illustrator Piet Paris is responsible for the concept and art direction of the hotel. Paris has been working for magazines and corporate clients all over the world for more than 20 years now and can almost be determined as a fashion icon. Can this get any better? We have high expectations for this hotel. Can’t wait!

D Magazine Outlet

Everyone knows bargain hunting can be very rewarding. Especially in an expensive city such as Milan, great deals on high-end brands will make your trip worthwhile. D Magazine Outlet has three stores, two of which are located within Milan’s Golden Triangle and one a little further away on Via Forcella. If you have time and don’t mind going out of your way, try the latter. This store appears to have the best items and is relatively quiet and well-organized. All stores have racks that are labeled by designer so you can save time by skipping the ones you don’t like or just sprint towards your favorite one right away. Designers include – but are definitely not limited to – Galliano, Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Helmut Lang…and prices are usually around 50% off. How can we resist?! Be aware: outlet shopping requires a great deal of patience and perseverance. But, wouldn’t a pair of Lanvin peep toe shoes marked down to $250 make up for that?

Excelsior Milano

If you could compose your favorite store, what would it look like? It would definitely be located in the heart of fashion capital Milan. And you would like the store to be filled with emerging fashion brands and some trusted classics. The design of the store would be an architect’s dream: courageous and innovative, making you feel like you’re shopping inside an art gallery. The beauty department must have a wide selection of exclusive brands that can’t be found elsewhere. And to top it off, you would throw in those colorful Ladurée macaroons that you love so much and – what the heck – a Tiffany’s. This must have been the trail of thought of the founder of Excelsior Milano, which is the name of your favorite store to be. With labels including Sergio Rossi, Proenza Schoeler, Christian Louboutin and contemporary American designers such as Rag & Bone and Theory, this store will most definitely be a success. In true Italian tradition, Excelsior also makes a tribute to food with Eat’s, a supermarket filled with the most delicious meats, fish, vegetables and wines. Excelsior Milano opened in september 2011 and is planned to open in several other Italian cities over the next few years.
