Magnolia Hotel Amsterdam

A new boutique hotel in the Museum District of Amsterdam just opened it’s doors: The Neighbour’s Magnolia, named after the Magnolia tree in the neighbour’s garden. The hotel has 21 rooms, all with big comfy beds and decorated with furniture by HAY design. A godsend for visitors who want to stay at the most beautiful and central location of Amsterdam but pay a lower prize. And if you want to sip a €15 euro gin & tonic, you just go nextdoor to the fancy Conservatoriumhotel.

Ree7

Another hot & hip lunch concept in the hustle and bustle of the nine little streets in Amsterdam. Ree7 is small and intimate (like every other place in the Jordaan) and serves freshly baked bread, homemade soups and tasty salads. It’s also the go-to place for a glass of wine and some cheese to end your shopping spree. But what truly enriches this popular Amsterdam neighborhood is the restaurant being open for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Bo Cinq

The populair bar and restaurant Bo Cinq, which opened it’s doors in 2009, has been re-decorating. The best feature is definitely the extremely long cocktail bar. On the menu is a mixture of tasty French and Arabic dishes. But you might as well skip dinner and order a cocktail. They are specialized in gin & tonics. L1004963-Edit L1003503-Edit

Hutspot

With two locations in Amsterdam, Hutspot is the newest, trendiest place to sip our Saturdaymorning coffee. Maybe even too trendy. Only go here if you’re not afraid of running into typical Amsterdam hipsters. That said, they do serve delicious coffee, sandwiches (served with potato chips) and cakes.

Bar & Grill Marathonweg

From the same chef as Amsterdam’s fancy and trendy Lion Noir, there is now a new restaurant: Marathonweg.
It’s situated in the south area of Amsterdam, near the old olympic stadium. At this place, they have heard from gemutlichkeit before: candles, amazing flower pieces and cosy little tables and chairs. But not at the least they know how to cook. They serve good meat, and tasty fish, all grilled on a special charcoal grill. No complicated dishes or ingredients, but what they serve is simply good and tasty. But the best feature is without a doubt the huge sunny terrace which is open in summertime.

De Goudvisclub

A strange name for foreigners. Goudvisclub means goldfish club. Luckily it’s not goldfish that’s on the menu, it’s asian streetfood, delicious cocktails and fine wines. The place is open and spacious, perfect for bringing a group of friends and just eat, drink and talk for hours. Only a short walk from Amsterdam’s central train station you couldn’t be any more downtown than this. In the mood for dancing? You are lucky, because the popular bar and club Bitterzoet is literally next door.

The Butcher

If you haven’t noticed yet, the someonetoldus-bloggers are quite fond of a good hamburger every now and then. That’s why when The Butcher first opened it’s doors in Amsterdam’s cosy  The Pijp area, we were one of the first to take a peek. High quality burgers (Aberdeen Angus Beef) are being cooked and served at the front area of the house. It’s a place to go for snack before going out (or even better: after having had too many drinks). But… when you walk all the way to the back of the place, there’s a big door that looks like it leads into a refrigerator or storage area. Guess again. Making a reservation through your special connections in Amsterdam might open this big secret door for you to see what’s behind it. How? We’re not going to tell.

Hotel Modez

Coming soon: the grand opening of Hotel Modez in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Arnhem is Holland’s Milan. In other words: the fashion city of this tiny little country by the sea. Hotel Modez will be the first fashion hotel to open in Arnhem. With each room designed and decorated by another Dutch fashion designer, this hotel will be one unique piece of work. As from September 14th they will welcome guests, but you can already book your room online. What’s really cool is the room decorated by fashion house Spijkers&Spijkers. A dress from their summer collection is displayed on the wall and there will be a mobile system showing the patterns. This way, guests of the room can see how a dress like that is actually made. How cool. Famous fashion illustrator Piet Paris is responsible for the concept and art direction of the hotel. Paris has been working for magazines and corporate clients all over the world for more than 20 years now and can almost be determined as a fashion icon. Can this get any better? We have high expectations for this hotel. Can’t wait!

The Harbour Club

Rumor has it the Harbour Club is going to be Amsterdam’s place-to-be for the summer of 2012. Despite it’s less than central location in the East part of Amsterdam (Zeeburg) this new hotspot might still be worth while paying a visit. Why? A. Because the East area is starting to grow out into a trendy part of town full of good restaurants and bars, and honestly: this place is unlike anything else Amsterdam has to offer. B. The Harbour Club has an enormous terrace right by the water, including beautiful loungy sofa’s and chairs. C. It’s a restaurant, cocktail bar and night club all-in-one. And D. Because every now and then there’s a DJ playing music in the restroom area. That’s a first.
